Description Saas-Fee

Before you can fully take in the mighty glaciers and towering peaks of the Valais Alps, you first need to park your car in the underground garage. For guests who have booked a hotel, free telephones are available so you can call your hotel, and shortly afterwards, you’ll be picked up by an electric vehicle and taken to your hotel.

From the parking garage, it’s just a few steps to the Alpin Express, the world’s first three-cable gondola. This lift takes you up into the eternal ice, via the Morenia mid-station, all the way to Felskinn at 3,000 m. From there, the underground funicular Metro Alpin brings you right up to the Allalin at 3,500 m. Here, you’ll enjoy a fantastic view over the world of the four-thousanders and numerous glaciers. This is also where you’ll find the world’s highest revolving restaurant.

From Mittelallalin, you can carve your way to the two parallel drag lifts Mittelallalin 2 and 3, which take you up to the highest point of the ski area. From here, the entire ski area is at your feet, and you can reach almost every point, except for Plattjen and Egginerjoch.

In summer, the slopes are usually open down to the valley station of the Mittelallalin 1 drag lift, offering an impressive 500 vertical meters for a summer ski area. The summer ski area offers slopes of all difficulty levels (a rarity for a glacier) and features a fun park with a halfpipe. Even in the height of summer, you’ll find excellent slope conditions in the morning.

Wide glacier slopes lead down to the mountain station of the Feechatz drag lift, where you have to decide whether to take the route via Morenia or Längfluh. You can reach the Längfluh glacier area from Saas-Fee with the 10-seater Spielboden gondola, followed by the Längfluh aerial tramway. Intermediate runs now lead down to the Längfluh four-seater chairlift, which opens up a piste with breathtaking views of the Fee Glacier. A challenging section takes you through the rocks down to Spielboden and further on intermediate slopes to Saas-Fee.

If, after the four-seater chairlift, you take the Feechatz drag lift, you’ll reach the Allalin lifts via a long, flat section. If you opt for the slopes around Morenia, you’ll find the modern detachable six-seater chairlift with weather protection hoods, Morenia, which gives access to several intermediate runs. The Alpin Express also quickly brings you from Morenia back to Felskinn. With the two drag lifts Mittaghorn and Egginerjoch, you can reach Egginerjoch at 3,100 m.

A special highlight is the valley runs from Morenia down to Saas-Fee. You should definitely make a detour from piste 4b to the Gletschergrotte, a very good restaurant with a beautiful sun terrace. Once in the valley, you first reach the Felskinn aerial tramway, which takes you directly up more than 1,000 vertical meters back to Felskinn and the mid-station of the Spielbodenbahn. If you continue, you’ll reach the valley station of the Spielbodenbahn and the six-seater Plattjen gondola. From Plattjen (2,570 m), an intermediate run leads back to the valley, which splits into a difficult and an easy piste in the lower section. Ultimately, a connecting trail also leads back to the Alpin Express. Right on the edge of the village, the practice lifts Bifig, Leeboden, and Stafelwald are buzzing, providing access to easy slopes and a beginner’s area.

You should definitely visit the Ice Pavilion, the largest ice grotto in the world, at 3,500 m altitude (with guest card and Wintercard you get a discount on the entrance fee). The Hannig, accessible by a four-seater gondola, is the toboggan and sun mountain of Saas-Fee. To crown a beautiful day of skiing, treat yourself to a cheese fondue in one of the many cozy inns or huts in Saas-Fee, or visit the après-ski bars on the party mile in Gletscherstraße.
