Environmental protection of the ski resort Ruka

Environmental protection plays a significant role in Ruka. Since 2008, strict environmental measures have been implemented in all areas. The ski lifts in Ruka are powered by green energy, reducing CO2 emissions to zero. Since 2018, Ruka has been the second climate-neutral ski resort in Finland (after Pyhä). Since 2021, the piste machines have been using renewable heating oil made 100% from waste and residual materials. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by up to 90 percent compared to the use of fossil fuels. The GPS system Snowsat is used for piste grooming to make the process as energy-efficient as possible. The accommodations are also operated in an environmentally friendly manner and powered by green energy.
