Highlights:
One of the most snow-sure ski resorts in Canada, with a very early season start, located close to Banff, offering beautiful views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, very friendly staff, challenging slopes for experts, and environmentally friendly ski operations.Negative points:
No lifts with weather protection covers, no accommodation options in the ski area, no cross-country trails, Banff National Park pass required (for a fee)Description Mt. Norquay – Banff
From Banff, it takes about 10 minutes to reach Mt. Norquay, Banff’s local mountain and the oldest ski area in Canada. Advanced skiers love this resort, as it offers steep tree runs and mogul slopes to carve their turns. Occasionally, you might even spot some wildlife at the edge of the slopes.
From the parking lot and the Cascade Lodge, the Cascade quad chairlift and, running parallel to it, the Sundance Conveyor belt start, leading to very easy slopes designed especially for beginners. This is also where the beautifully designed snow park is located.
Advanced skiers love the North American double chairlift, which takes them to the steepest runs in the ski area. This is also where the Gun-Run starts, one of the steepest runs in Canada.
From the top station of the Cascade quad chairlift, you can continue over to the Spirit quad chairlift. The runs at this lift are easy to intermediate. From here, you can continue on to the last lift, a detachable quad chairlift called Mystic Express. The runs here are mostly intermediate to difficult and lead through tree-lined trails down to the base station.
To return to the Cascade Lodge and the parking lots, it’s best to take the Spirit quad chairlift again and turn left when you get off. For refreshments, the Cascade Lodge is available at the base station. Additionally, there is the North American Lodge at the tubing area.
