The Mt. Buller ski resort is located just under 250 kilometers northeast of Melbourne (a good 3-hour drive) and can be reached from Sydney in about 8 hours by car. From Mansfield, a well-developed road leads to the base of the mountain. From the Mirimbah toll station, a steep and winding mountain road takes you up to the parking lots at the Northside Express. This is where the road ends and you must leave your car. Day visitors can access the ski area directly from the parking lot via the Northside Express or take the free shuttle bus to Mount Buller Alpine Village. During the winter season, every vehicle must pay a resort entry fee. In addition, carrying snow chains is mandatory in the state of Victoria (including for 4WD/all-wheel drive vehicles). Snow chains can be rented in Mansfield or Merrijig. Failure to comply may result in hefty fines. Driving up to the accommodations in Mount Buller Alpine Village is not possible, and luggage is not permitted on the shuttle buses. Furthermore, the overnight parking lots are not connected to the shuttle bus service, so you must book a paid transfer to your hotel in advance.
