The winter sports and thermal spa resort of Leukerbad is situated at an altitude of 1,411 meters amidst a dramatic and impressive rocky landscape, between the Gemmi/Gemmipass on one side and the Torrenthorn on the other. As early as Roman times, Leukerbad’s hot springs were well known, and even today Leukerbad remains a popular bathing destination thanks to its thermal baths. From Leukerbad, the Leukerbad-Rinderhütte cable car (Torrentbahn) takes skiers up to the ski area. There are only a few accommodations directly next to the valley station (e.g. Waldhaus, Quellenhof). Several other accommodations can be reached directly from the valley run. At the top of the ski area, there are dormitories at the Rinderhütte mountain station, accommodations at Hotel Alpengruss, and places to stay in Flaschen at Pension Flaschen.
