Description Big White

In the heart of the Canadian Rockies, about 60 km from Kelowna, lies the ski paradise Big White. Modern four- and six-seater chairlifts take you up to 2,319 m. The first access point, even before reaching the Big White Village Centre, is the detachable four-seater chairlift Gem Lake Express. After another 5-7 minutes by car, you arrive at the Big White Village Centre.

From here, several lifts head up the mountain. The four-seater chairlift Plaza Chair connects the Ridge Daylodge with the Village Centre. Here you’ll find very easy runs, which are perfect for beginners. The detachable six-seater chairlift Snow Ghost Express and the four-seater chairlift Ridge Rocket Express, both starting at the Ridge Daylodge, take you to slopes of all difficulty levels. From the top station, you can swing over to the Alpine T-bar, which pulls you all the way up to the summit. From here, you can ski down to any point in the ski area. On the backside of the mountain, the very challenging runs Parachute Bowl, Pegasus, and The Cliff begin—definitely not for the faint of heart!

Via intermediate runs, you reach the triple chairlift Powder Chair, which provides a good connection to the double chairlift Falcon Chair and to the Gem Lake Express. The runs at this lift are difficult and lead through relatively dense forest. The Falcon Chair also serves challenging runs, some already above the tree line.

Many intermediate and easy forest runs lead parallel to each other to the base station of the Gem Lake Express, all merging into the ski trail Ogo Slow, which then leads to this lift. If you keep right at the top station, you can carve down to the valley through the Sun Rype Bowl on beautiful runs. To return to Big White Village, take the Village Way from the top station of the Gem Lake Express to the triple chairlift Powder Chair, ride up, and then ski down to the Ridge Daylodge via Sleepy Hollow and several other runs. With the Ridge Rocket Express and the Snow Ghost Express, you can head back up and switch to the detachable four-seater chairlifts Bullet Express and Blackforest Express. Here you’ll find numerous easy to intermediate runs.

The Gondola Way takes you all the way down to Happy Valley. Here you’ll find two magic carpets for beginners, as well as the Tubing Park. Lara’s eight-person gondola then takes you from Happy Valley back to the Village Centre. Night skiing is available from Tuesday to Saturday on the Plaza Chair, Telus Park Chair, and Bullet Express. Big White is one of the largest night skiing areas with long runs in Canada. Lara’s Gondola also runs daily until 10 pm, providing an ideal connection to the Tubing Park. Throughout Big White, it is permitted to ski through the open forests, and especially after fresh snowfall, this is truly a dream.
