Very easy valley run (ski road), uninteresting for advanced skiers, parking feesDescription Bansko
The completely renovated ski resort of Bansko, updated for the 2003/2004 season, is the leading ski area in all of Bulgaria. The over 6 km long eight-seater gondola takes you from Bansko, via a mid-station, directly into the ski area at Bunderishka Polyana at an altitude of 1,635 m. From here, you can take the Banderitza 1 and 2 chairlifts straight up to the highest point at 2,530 m.
From up here, the entire ski area lies at your feet. The Plato chairlift provides access to two wonderful, easy, and wide runs at the summit. You can carve your way down to Shiligarnika on easy to intermediate slopes, from where the six-seater Todorka chairlift takes you almost back up to the summit, or you can take the detachable four-seater Shiligarnika chairlift to the Plato chairlift at the top.
In Shiligarnika, there is also a drag lift, and an easy run leads down to Bunderishka Polyana. You can also continue down to the newly built (in 2004/2005) detachable four-seater Mosta chairlift, which, at 2.6 km, is also the longest chairlift in the area and also ends at the Plato chairlift. Via Ski Route 2, you can reach the mid-station of the gondola to Chalin valog.
For advanced skiers, there is plenty of open ski terrain below the summit plateau, but skiing off-piste is officially prohibited. Run No. 9 Alberto Tomba is a challenging slope that runs directly beneath the Banderitza four-seater chairlift and leads to Bunderishka Polyana. Here, there is also a platter lift that serves an easy and very wide slope for beginners right at the mountain station of the gondola. Conveyor belts and rope tows are available for beginners.
The long valley run No. 1 starts in Shiligarnika and stretches via Bunderishka Polyana all the way down to the base station of the gondola. The run is very easy and becomes very flat in the lower section, so you may need to push a little.
The slopes throughout the area are very well maintained and lead through long forest clearings down to the valley. There are plenty of restaurants for a break at Shiligarnika and Bunderishka Polyana. You’ll find typical Bulgarian grilled specialties and international dishes. After mastering the long, albeit very flat, valley run (it’s 16 km from the summit to the valley), you can head to Happy End for après-ski – there’s always something going on here.
