The range of mountain huts and slope restaurants is extensive, spanning from larger self-service restaurants to converted old alpine huts. The focus is almost everywhere on regional dishes, and some chefs pursue a high culinary standard. This continues in the numerous restaurants in the valley towns. Those who enjoy good food are especially well catered for in Val di Gressoney.

Mountain hut tip

Lo Retsignon

Valley station of the Alpe Mandria chairlift in Ciarcerio

In addition to standard dishes such as sausages and hamburgers (though the chef may sometimes react offended when you order the latter), you can enjoy specialties like Lardo e castagne (paper-thin slices of flavorful fatty bacon served with chestnuts marinated in honey) or various types of polenta.

Baita Ristorante Morgenrot

Bedemie, on the valley run to Gressoney

Cozy hut with a large sun terrace, where you can also have dinner; transport back to the valley is provided by snowcat. Specialties include pasta pockets filled with beef, “Robiola,” savoy cabbage, and Bagna Cauda, as well as the Chnéfléné (spaetzle) typical of the Val di Gressoney, served with Bleu d’Aoste cheese. The veal cheek braised in beer offers a unique twist on traditional hut cuisine.

Alpenhütte del Lys

On the descent from Passo Salati to Gabiet

A very rustic little hut with original furniture designed by the hut owner himself, as well as amusing wooden sculptures. Pasta and polenta are served here. You can also enjoy soups, salad, and steak, as well as homemade desserts. From the terrace, you have a beautiful view of the Funpark.
