Highlights:
Spectacular panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, following in the footsteps of James Bond at Piz Gloria, highest ski area in the Bernese Oberland, revolving restaurant Piz Gloria, steep and long runs, large snowpark, freeride mecca, charming ski resort MürrenNegative points:
Parking fees, no valley run to Stechelberg, possible waiting times at the aerial cableways to the SchilthornDescription Schilthorn – Mürren/Lauterbrunnen
Opposite the Lauberhorn lies the winter sports village of Mürren (1,650 m) on a high plateau with its ski mountain Schilthorn (Piz Gloria). James Bond fans know the area, as the revolving panoramic restaurant on the Schilthorn served as the control center in the Bond film "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service".
You can either take the cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp and then the narrow-gauge railway via Winteregg to Mürren, or you can choose the faster route by parking your car in Stechelberg and gliding up to the Schilthorn (2,970 m) in four sections via Gimmelwald, Mürren, and Birg.
From the very top, a steep black run leads down to the Riggli chairlift, a modern detachable four-seater chairlift with weather protection hood, which takes you back up to the Birg station, or you can continue further down to the Muttleren double chairlift. The Kandahar double chairlift also ends at the top station of this lift. At these two lifts, you will find intermediate and very snow-sure runs on treeless slopes.
Through the Kanonenrohr, a challenging run, you can ski down into the valley to Mürren. Parallel to the Schilthorn cable car from Mürren, the modern detachable four-seater chairlift Schiltgrat and the Gimmeln drag lift operate, offering easy to intermediate runs.
With the Allmendhubel funicular and the Maulerhubel double chairlift, you can ski down to Winteregg. A new four-seater chairlift then takes you back up. Thanks to the Almiboden double chairlift, you can now float back up to the Allmendhubel without having to ski down to the valley.
Beginners will find their area on the Allmendhubel at a platter lift or on the easy run No. 6 Bob-Run through the Blumental to Mürren.
Unfortunately, there is no valley run down to Stechelberg, so you have to take the cable car back down from Mürren. With good snow conditions, you can ski down a snow-covered valley run all the way to Lauterbrunnen (796 m).
