The new Gurtenbahn replaces the Gurtenbahn funicular. The renewal involves the vehicles and the underlying technology. The new cabins are being built by Calag Carrosserie Langenthal AG, while the technology is provided by Garaventa.
The cabins of the new Gurtenbahn are panoramic cars – the panorama compartments of the existing cars will be discontinued. In addition, the new vehicles offer more space for bicycles, wheelchairs, strollers, and sleds. Folding seats and benches allow for flexible use, and several electric roof windows ensure good ventilation.
