Test report Formigal

The ski resort Formigal is the most modern resort in Spain, however to the season 2004/2005 the ski resort was extended completely by 4 new lifts and until 2009 are about 17 new lifts planned, so that you have only modern chair lifts in the future.

Approx. 1 km from the town of Formigal in Sextas is the base station from the new high speed eight person chair Sallent. You can also take a shuttle bus to Sarrios or Anayet to reach the upper slopes. Here is also the quad Furco especially for beginners.

From Sarrios you can take several t-bars, called Cantal and Valle de Izas up to the top station of the eight person chair und from there you can reach the lifts and slopes underneath the Pico Tres Hombres. With the quad Collado you reach the other side of the ski resort and the top station is underneath the Pico Royo. From here you can ski or ride very nice runs of all of all degrees of difficulty down to Anayet. Now you can take the high speed six person chair Garmet up to the new opened area and ski or ride down to Portalet. Another new high speed six person chair, called Batallero take you back to Anayet. In Portalet is a new quad, called Faballones which open up easy runs especially for beginners. Between Anayet and Portalet is enough space for a fresh powder run on safe slopes. From Anayet you can take the high speed quad up to Pico Royo from where you can ski or ride an easy, an intermediate and some advanced runs down to Sarrios. The double chair Sarrios takes you along a very easy slope to the t-bars underneath the Pala de Ip. The t-bars Huegas and Lanuza open up mostly intermediate terrain, contrary to the t-bar Escarra. The Escarra lift serves very advanced runs through the rocks with steep runs. Very recommendable are the slopes underneath the Pico Tres Hombres. You can reach the area with the t-bars from Sarrios. The long quad Crestas and the t-bar Fuentes open up mostly intermediate runs, with the t-bar Tramacastilla you can reach advanced runs which lead down to Sarrios. From Pico Tres Hombres and from the top station of the eight person chair you have several runs to chose to ski or ride down to Sextas. The runs in the hole area are all above the tree line with exeption of the slopes Bosque and Tosquera. In the resort are a lot of snack bars and restaurants, very recommendable is the restaurant Gemsbock, where you will find good food and drinks for a reasonable price. For beginners is a beginner lift with slope at every parking lot, and/or every base station. The ski resort of Formigal offers beginners, like also advanced skiers and riders suitable terrain and with the innovations and plans until 2009 is it the most modern ski resort in Spain.
