The Gastein Valley is very concerned about the environment. Numerous free ski buses run between the villages and base stations. Bad Gastein train station is located directly at the base station of the Stubnerkogelbahn lift. Escalators and a glass walkway provide convenient access. The ÖBB (Österreichische Bundesbahn train operator) offers a combined train & ski pass ticket. The Gasteiner Bergbahnen ski lift operator also shows very great commitment to the environment. Hydraulic energy is used to power cable cars and snow-making equipment. At the base station of the Schlossalmbahn lift, the resort has introduced a large solar installation in combination with a heat pump and soil water store. A charging point for electric vehicles is available in the parking level of the Schlossalm base station. Reservoirs are filled mainly with snowmelt. The resort is implementing reforestation projects. Slope surfaces are cultivated extensively.
